Be Prepared! We’re in the Midst of Hurricane Season
We are in the midst of the 2021 Hurricane season, which officially began on June 1st and continues through November 30th. If you have not done so already, we encourage all residents to take time now to prepare for a major storm by creating or reviewing family emergency plans, stocking a disaster supplies kit and talking with family members about plans and what could happen during a crisis so that everyone is prepared.
Please take a moment to review the information and links listed below for important emergency preparedness information prepared by the SC Emergency Management Division, City of Charleston, Berkeley County and American Red Cross. This is especially important for residents who are new to Charleston and the Lowcountry and who have never experienced an oncoming storm or hurricane evacuation, but all residents should review this information annually as it is updated from year to year.
In the event that we are notified of a potential storm, the POA office will communicate important information and updates about the approaching storm to residents via email. These communications will continue before and after the event in an effort to help keep residents informed of any impact to our community, and to share important information from City, county or state officials and emergency personnel.

SC Emergency Management Division:
The S.C. Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) and partner agencies update their annual Hurricane Guide each year. It details useful information about what residents should do before, during and after the landfall of a major hurricane. Topics covered include how to respond during storm watches and warnings, tips on insurance, tips on preparing for your pets during a major storm, supply lists and more. Flood Zone Information:
The City of Charleston has some helpful information regarding flood zones on their website, including the latest FEMA Flood Maps, information about flood zone types, what to do before a possible flood and more. Click here to view the City of Charleston flood zone information.
Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness:
Berkeley County’s Emergency Preparedness division coordinates an integrated emergency management system with multiple emergency response organizations, support services and volunteers. Click here for Berkeley County’s Emergency Management website.
