What You Need To Know About This Year’s Hurricane Season
Did you know that the S.C. Emergency Management Division recently unveiled new evacuation zones for our state? With the Atlantic Hurricane Season now officially upon us, now is the time to get familiar with the new zones and the SCEMD’s guidelines for preparing for a significant storm or emergency weather event. We urge residents to take steps now to be prepared for action, if necessary, during the season.
Hurricane Preparedness Guides:
You can start by reviewing the S.C Emergency Management Division’s Online Hurricane Guide, which provides helpful information to help you understand how storms are tracked, how warnings are issued and how to prepare and protect yourself and your family.
You should also review Charleston County’s updated Hurricane Guide, which includes information about the new evacuation zones and guidelines on the proper steps to take during an event.
Important Local Resources:
Berkeley County’s Emergency Preparedness Division coordinates an integrated emergency management system with multiple emergency response organizations, support services and volunteers.
The American Red Cross website includes a section on Disaster Relief and Recovery, a Hurricane Safety Checklist, and many other tools and resources to help you before, during and after an emergency.
Community Updates During a Storm:
In the event that we are notified of a potential storm, the POA office will communicate important information and updates about the approaching storm to residents via email. These communications will continue before and after the event in an effort to help keep residents informed of any impact to our community, and to share important information from City, county or state officials and emergency personnel.
