Smart Planning = Effective Stormwater Management

As a resident at Point Hope, you are fortunate to live in carefully designed master planned community with community-wide stormwater management practices that help significantly minimize the chance of damage and inconvenience during major weather events.

Storm runoff at Point Hope is designed to be part of an integrated drainage system that uses ponds and lakes that are deliberately positioned and designed to accommodate stormwater throughout the entire community. Ponds and lakes are connected by drainage pipes to create a network that grows along with the community to effectively manage the flow of stormwater. And because there is a single master developer responsible for infrastructure throughout the community, it’s possible to ensure that the network is properly constructed to serve the community as a whole.

Another contributing factor to successful stormwater management in a master planned community is the preventative maintenance and management activities undertaken by the POA. Keeping streets and parks clean prevents fallen leaves and other debris that can wash into lakes and ponds from clogging the pipes and drains that allow the system to work.

If the team’s success at Daniel Island - which has experienced no major flooding events in 25+ years - is any indication, Point Hope is poised to be another example of how master planning is critical for maintaining proper stormwater management practices.
