Hurricane Debby Updates
Tropical Storm Debby began impacting our area this morning, and conditions are expected to worsen over the next couple of days. The storm will bring heavy rain and a potential for significant flooding in some areas of Charleston. States of Emergency have been issued for South Carolina and the City of Charleston. Following is an outline of what the POA staff is doing to prepare our community’s common areas for the storm’s impact, and precautionary steps that residents should take before, during and after the storm:
The POA team began canvassing the property yesterday to ensure that loose objects are secured and to assess pre-storm conditions of all common areas. We are preparing for the heavy rains and potential flooding by shifting the location of “gutter buddies” that are used in construction areas to prevent silt and debris from entering the stormwater system. This will help prevent water from pooling in these areas. These drainage protection devices will be put back in place once the storm has passed.
The builders have implemented their storm preparation plans, and we are in communication with their teams to ensure that they properly secure and prepare their sites.
Berkeley County is providing access to sandbags while supplies last at the Cainhoy Rural Vol. Fire Department Station 3, located at 2451 Clements Ferry Road.
Property owners are asked to please check around the entire perimeter of your home or business and secure or bring inside items such as flags, sandwich board signs (in the commercial area), planters (both hanging and potted), yard art, furniture, grills, bird feeders, sports goals and any other loose items that could blow or float away and cause damage to your property or neighboring properties.
The City of Charleston’s yard debris pick-up service will not take place this week, and trash removal service may also be affected. Therefore, please remove any debris or trash cans that are currently placed at the curb.
The Hub will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 6 & 7, with a tentative reopening scheduled for Thursday, August 8th.
During the next several days, residents are asked to report any damage they observe in the parks, trails and common areas to POA staff by emailing details and pictures, if possible, to poa@pointhopecharleston.com.
In the event you lose electricity, notify Dominion Energy of power outages HERE.
For downed power lines, tree limbs, trees or other large debris that you may encounter in the streets or roads, please call 911 to report them.
POA staff will be on-site to inspect the property and begin any necessary clean-up as soon as the storm passes and it is considered safe to return.
